For over 15 years, the month of November has been dubbed as Movember. It has become the reason for men to ditch their razors and let their facial hair grow for a month.

The celebration of Movember started in 2004 in Australia, led by the Movember Foundation (a non-profit organization). The goal is to raise awareness for testicular and prostate cancers.

Ever since it was founded, the foundation has raised more than $911 million to fund over 1,200 programs focused on physical inactivity, mental health issues, testicular cancer, and prostate cancer.

Here’s how you can participate in Movember:

1. Grow a mustache

Joining the cause is simple: Just let your mustache grow. Once you’ve successfully grown one, it can be an effective conversation starter. People around you will be curious about you having a new look.

Once you’ve started a conversation with other men about your mustache, you can start talking about men’s health. The goal is to create awareness about health problems that men face encounter.

On top of that, you can encourage men to speak up about their health issues. It’s a simple move, but it can go a long way.

2. Post your progress on social media

After growing your mustache, you can show your progress together with information about Movember on your social media accounts. Through this, you can spread the word about men’s health.

You can post your pictures and use the hashtag #Movember. Also, you can ask others to donate in support of men’s health all over the world.

3. Take the move challenge

Since Movember emphasizes the importance of living a healthy lifestyle, you can participate by getting physically active. This is what they call the “Move for Movember” challenge.

This is a great option for those men who are not able to grow mustaches. The challenge encourages men to run or walk for 60 miles over the course of the month. 60 miles represent the 60 men who die because of suicide every hour throughout the globe.

4. Host a Mo-Ment

Gather your crew or your family, and start doing something fun and easy. The Mo-Ment event can be done virtually or in person.

Remember that you’re doing this for a good cause but that doesn’t mean the event shouldn’t be fun. Through Mo-Ment, you can raise awareness about men’s health and even encourage others to donate or join Movember.

5. Donate

If you don’t have time to do any of the steps above, then you can simply donate to the cause. Take note that no donation is too small.

What if you can’t grow a mustache?

Not all men can grow a mo’ and that’s perfectly alright. You can’t force something to grow if you’re not growing facial hair in the first place because of different factors like genetics.

Women can also join the cause by encouraging the men in their lives to join Movember by growing a mustache and getting active as much as they can.

Hopefully, Movember can help men to start living a healthier life by taking early action when experiencing health issues, maintaining a good diet, and staying active. To learn more visit the official Movember site.
